Ive been wondering as of late if is is possible to edit some line of text or something in order to keep the bodies from Disappearing in-game. i think it would a great degree of Realism to the game and i was just curious if this is possible.

thanks for your time

Short answer is no. Corpse despawning is part of the engine and it's there to keep resource usage down. If bodies stayed the whole time, there'd be mountains of them before long and not only would the server struggle to keep up (it has to remember the positions of them all as well as broadcast that to players) but people with old PC's would find their graphics cards buckling under the weight of all those extra polygons.

It'd be interesting to know how many corpses there'd be after a typical battle, though. My guess is there'd be heaps, especially in certain areas. It'd be a sobering sight.

Well I assume Herr Berg was talking about commands/mutators that can be utilized for realism scrims where you have no respawns... so there'll never be more than 50 bodies. It would do wonders for those sorts of gametypes, and while we're at it is it possible to keep dropped weapons around too? All for one life scenarios of course.

Hey Psycho,

Its it possible to incorporate this into a Mutator, or is the whole concept radical. Like Fuchs said I'm not thinking public server use, that would cause a Lotta Lag/FPS problems but for a realism standpoint could it be done? and if that cant be done is there a way to lengthen the Despawning time. so that the bodies and weapons will Disappear but it will just take a while longer?

Thanks Again

hrhr, or you could go all the way and make respawn a function of body collection. Only after bodies have been recovered is respawn possible :)

so i found a few references to maybe help the progress for this mutator to be developed

http://www.moddb.com...s/custom-config
http://www.filefront...813/giblife.zip

both mutators i linked have the possibility to make bodies and decals stay out the round or forever for that matter. tho these are mutators made for UT2003/4

good luck!

Mutators are definitely the way to go. It's highly unlikely that we would add in these specific functions to the official build. Those UT2004 muts should work with some adaptations and modifications.

i think it would a great degree of Realism to the game and i was just curious if this is possible.

Also it would be nice if bullet holes, blast marks and destroyed vehicles would not disappear after few seconds, but maybe after minute or two.

Good to hear that it's possible and not hardcoded!

Well that was easier than I thought. I just took the filefront one and trimmed it down heavily, and ported it to use DH actors. I just tested it in-game, first try, and it works! Corpses stay. And surprisingly, at the end of the round, they disappear! perfect :)

Nice one! Although as Ch!cKen mentioned, I highly recommend not using this on a full 50 player server with unlimited respawns. Should be fine for clan based matches utilizing the single respawn mut.

Wilson,

Were having problems with the mutator. it seems to only be working on a local or practice offline game. we tested it on our server and it disabled grenades, messed with the weapons, Etc. do you have any suggestions. is there any special way to install it?
the Mutator works brilliantly offline though exactly what we were shooting for.

Thanks again for the Mutator
