The Darkest Hour team is proud to announce the first of a series of new maps. This media release focuses on scenarios that give a context to new vehicles and weaponry - Carentan Causeway, Poteau Ambush and Vieux Recon.

Carentan Causeway

By June 9th the 101st Airborne division's plan to capture Carentan had been drawn up. The assault, scheduled to jump off just after midnight on the 10th, was for the 327th GIR to cross the Douve et Brévands, circle east and assault the road from Isigny while the 502nd PIR was to attack from the southwest along the causeway of highway N13 blocking the German retreat. The causeway crossed flooded marsh areas between Saint Côme-du-Mont and Carentan which concealed well prepared German positions.

Led by Lt.Col. G. Cole, the 502nd found themselves in a fierce 2 day battle against their German counterparts, the Fallschirmjager of FJR6, to push along the causeway taking the 4 bridges that spanned the Douve river and the Vire-Taute canal. Under heavy fire, the Americans were forced to advance by crawling along the exposed road between bridges 3 and 4. The high casualties sustained during this advance earned the causeway the nickname 'Purple Heart Lane'.

Poteau Ambush

December 18th, 1944. Poteauer Strasse, Belgium. Early in the morning an American convoy is ambushed by SS Kampfgruppe Hansen of the 1.SS Leibstandarte. With help from the heavy fog, the Germans achieved complete surprise and forced the allies to abandon their vehicles and pull back to the town of Poteau to set up a hasty defense perimeter.

Vieux Recon

This scenario represents the preliminary reconnaissance maneuvers leading up to the better known fictional engagement at Vieux. Under cover of the moon, allied recce units must identify and penetrate German positions while avoiding fast moving enemy patrols and bristling anti-tank positions.

As the dispositions of each side become clearer, reinforcement waves of heavier vehicles and close infantry support collide in the struggle to occupy the transportation routes and villages in the area.

All I can say is those maps rocks!

I'm so glad they brought back Carentan causway!
Now with mortar you can move behind some kind of creeping barrage!
It`s such a deadly map!

As for Poteau, it`s a rework version with extensive work to make it even better especially at the end!

Finally Vieux recon is quite a diffferent map, with all the recon vehicules the gameplay is awsome!

37mm seems to have some punch! lol and infantry is really important to hold the ground!
With plenty of at gun to face the allied armor.
So if axis use the AT screening to protect there inf. from tanks they can be quite effective holding some key positions!

Awesome! I'm liking the increased amount of foliage on Carentan Causeway. That current version of that map is just impossible after the third bridge.

Vieux Recon is also quite intriguing. Does it use the same layout as Vieux, or are there some new areas plus some overlaps? I notice the last screenshot is of the house at the Maltot ojbective.

Speaking of Vieux, I think that map needs to be revised. Less objectives, respawn doors, and generally make it more focused for infantry combat while keeping the overall size of the map the same to keep the flexibility of movement for vehicles. If this is going to be the last update for DH, there shouldn't be any underplayed maps!

Great update as always!

Very cool. Nice to see more of the "classic" DH maps making a comeback for the final curtain call :) Carentan Causeway is looking particularly sexeh.

37mm seems to have some punch!

I bet the Stuart seems like a King Tiger compared to the Sdkfz 234/1

Keep it up guys!

I would seriously be happy if they release right now with all of the stuff they've already shown. All these goodies + tank fixes = win :P

Damn good job guys, did TT33 do all the skins? 'Cause they kick ass.

Definitely looking forward to vieux.

Is there any way to get a historical vieux? IRL, it was the battle of Hill 102, and a single Tiger sat on the hill and devastated a regiment of tanks before the Tiger backed up and drive away. I know that doesnt sound like much of a battle, but a map with a small number of Tigers against Shermans would be a challenging map. To be more specific, a map where the Spawns are reverse, with the Germans not being able to recap their own caps.
Just an idea
