Credited with the destruction of 150+ tanks and the recipient of the Knight's Cross and Oak leaves to the Knight's Cross during the war. After the war he wrote about his experiences in the excellent book "Tigers in the mud" and started his own pharmacy shop called "Tiger Apotheke" which he managed till 2011.

If you have not read Herr Carius' book, you are missing out. Also Kurt Meyer's "Grenadiers" is a must read.  Also, Alexander McKee's "CAEN: Anvil of Victory" (mainly from Commonwealth viewpoint)  and Richard Hargreave's "Germans in Normandy".

Solid stuff.
